As the weather remains cold (and wet) we start to pay more attention to our feet.
Being closer to the ground, they tend to feet the cold sooner.
Wearing socks inside shoes creates an extra layer of warmth but be careful they are not too thick as this can cut off circulation.
If you have diabetes it is important that you look at your feet every day, you can use a mirror to see the bottoms of them. If you notice any cuts, bathe the foot in salty water and put a dressing over small wounds. If small wounds do not heal in a few days, you should contact your Podiatrist for advice or possible prescription medication.
The best material for socks to have for warmth is wool. You may also find certain shoe liners have specialist warmth enhancers and you can even get heated insoles.
Sometimes chilblains can occur when the feet become too cold. These can be painful and the skin can break causing a wound.
In conditions such as Raynaud's, the feet are susceptible to becoming cold.
