Sesamoiditis

Katrina Corby

sometimes known as the ball bearings of the foot. The sesamoids are two small bones that can be found beneath the first metatarsal (the ball of the big toe).

They act as bit like the patella on the knee in that they help the big toe articulate.

They can become imflamed or sometimes rupture under stress of exercise.

Sesamoiditis can be relieved with proper shoe selection and orthotses.
